The author, Charles Griffin Coutant (1840 - 1913), was a resident of Cheyenne and served as a Wyoming state librarian and archivist.
John Colter ( 1774 – 1813) was a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804–1806). Though party to one of the more famous expeditions in history, Colter is best remembered for explorations he made during the winter of 1807–1808, when he became the first known person of European descent to enter the region now known as Yellowstone National Park, and to see the Teton Mountain Range. Colter spent months alone in the wilderness, and is widely considered to be the first mountain man.

John Colter Explorer Mountain Man and Trapper eBook Charles Griffin Coutant Reviews
Interesting but only a few pages.
Always interested in knowing more about Colter and his life. A tough life!
Lived in Montana and heard about the Annual foot race named Co!ters Run. I understand about its true meaning now.
Very good.
John Coulter was with the Lewis and Clark exposition of 1804. After the trip ended, 1806, Coulter mustered out and immediately returned to the wilderness of the Missouri. He made many discoveries in what is now Wyoming and Montana. While many other explorers have documented their trials and tribulations, we know very little on Coulter's adventures - it is believed he was mainly a trapper. This book is rather short. A great read of our early history of the West.
The information on Coulter and his episode, in what is now Montana, is very limited but the book makes a great attempt to make the record clear.
Not much of a writer in my opinion.
Only a few pages I already had read this info long ago
I enjoyed the book not as much info as I would like. But enjoyed it just the same.
